The History of Luxton Optical
Luxton Optical was established in 1966 by Hal Luxton. In 1967, Gene Serpa purchased the business. His wife Connie had worked as a receptionist and greeter. Pat, their daughter, began working with them as a journeyman optician in 1971. Kathy later joined in 1978. Kathy’s husband joined in 1980. Gene was active in the community. Twice, he was the President of the Corte Madera Lions club and the Larkspur Chamber of Commerce. He and a fellow Lions club member had a specialized kitchen built for the Blind and Vision Impaired of Marin. The visually impaired adults learned how to cook and remain independent. His daughters ran the business after Gene had passed. In memory of Gene Serpa, Lion’s club has a yellow mailbox in front of the store to receive used donated glasses Lion’s Club box.
